The 2002 Information Security Breaches Survey managed by Pricewaterhouse Coopers on behalf of the UK Department of trade and Industry determined that IT security breaches are costing UK businesses up to £18bn every year. Its research shows that the threat is growing at an alarming rate. Forty four per cent of businesses suffered some kind of security breach in 2001, almost double the figure in 2000 and is expected to get worse.

Information that traverses unsecured networks is open to many types of attacks. Anyone with access to an unprotected system and a little technical knowledge can read, alter, or forge the data in transit, and programs are available through the Internet to facilitate this process. If the information exchanged across the network is valuable to the customers business, or if it needs to be protected to ensure the privacy of its users and/or its clients, then security through encryption must be considered.

Our investigations have shown that most organisations have minimal network security. P&C Communications are able to supply economic and managed network security services which provides data encryption and maximum security at the IP address level protecting both the customers local, and wide area networks from unauthorised intrusions.
